First of all, sorry for wrting this in English. I understand German well, but it is more difficult to write it.
A few weeks ago I already placed a reaction on this forum about the mu5000 not recognizing my usb 2.0 cases. There was no futher reaction, but for what I have read, there are many users with the same problems. So I thought it was a good idea to send an email to Ovislink about this problem. To inform you, I placed the content of this mail in this message.
I hope this will help to solve the problems. Without solving it, the mu5000 is not useful to me.
Email to Ovislink:
Hello Ovislink,
I own an Ovislink mu-5000fs and I must say, I am not very happy with it.
The device has problems in recognizing a USB 2.0 HD. I have tried several cases, harddisks, but the result is still the same.
I will tell you in detail what I have done, maybe it it useful for you to find the problem.
First I installed the mu5000 in my network. There was no problem with that, I could find the device in mynetwork places.
Then I connected a USB2.0 case with a 4 Gb HB (just for testing), formatted with FAT32. There was no repsonse, the light MODE on the mu5000 did not respond.
Then I tried an USB memorystick. This was recognized (the modelight flashed and than stayed green) by the mu5000 and I could access it.
I tried a different USB2.0 case with another harddisk, but this did not work either.
Then I tried something that might be useful for you.
I placed a USB 1.1 hub between the mu5000 and the USB2.0 case. Now, the mu5000 did recognize the harddisk and it was possible to use it. However it now was a usb1.1 in stead of a usb2.0, so it was very slow and not workable.
Yesterday I bought a usb 2.0 hub to try the same, but with this hub it did not work.
I tried everything with firmware 1.20 and 1.30
My conclusion is, that the mu5000 is not capable of using usb 2.0 cases. I don't know if it is something in the electronics or in the firmware, but I hope you will fix it as soon as possible.
I will give you some details on the equipment I used:
Q-tec usb2.0 750H case chipset IN-SYSTEM ISD300A1 0224KU028
Smart Mobile Storage chipset CY7C68300B-56PVXC CYP 632281
Solotech IDE box chipset CY7C68300A-56PVXC CYP 634194
4 Gb Seagate HD
160 Gb Hitachi HD
40 Gb Maxtor HD all FAT32 formatted
Trust USB 1.1 4 ports hub
IOgear GUH274W1 USB 2.0 4 ports hun with power supply (also tried without)
I hope you will have the necessary information to solve this annoying problem. I can not use the device if it isn't usb 2.0.
I put a lot of effort to write this mail and to collect al the information, so I hope you will give a reaction soon.
Best regards
